Interview with Mr. Trung Thanh Vu

Royal Viet Thanh

Personal Facts:

  • Born 1979 near Hanoi in the North of Vietnam.
  • Studying Agriculture and Fisheries Management at the University of Nha Trang
  • Joining a Bee Keeper Community in 2012 in Daklak in the Mountainous Region to learn about bee Keeping and Honey Production and Harvesting
  • Founding the first Factory Royal Viet Thanh for Honey Production in Daklak
  • Starting at 800 Tons of pure Honey for Export per year
  • 2014 a second main Factory in Saigon
  • 2016 joining a Bee Keeping Honey producing Kibbutz in Israel for half a year learning more details and refining the knowledge and Management techniques there
  • 2016 open another Factory in Phan Thiet

Royal Viet Thanh under Trung Thanh Vu employs today 40 Families of Bee Keepers in Cooperation that supply the company with the best of Honey. In this cooperation transfer of information and stringent control on the system of collecting and harvesting are paramount.

In 2021 Royal Viet Thanh exported 2.000 tons of Honey annually

In 2022 Trung Van Vu developed a revolutionary Biological Booster System for Bees Health

Basically it is all about the Bees right?

Yes. The Bees are a highly intelligent close community of Honey producers that is always amazing to watch and to experience even after years of caring for them. We do not rely on random Bee stock that we collect somewhere in the jungles but we breed and care for the Bees in a controlled environment.

So in a way this is a kind of Bee farming. All rotates about the health and the condition of the Queen Bee that reflect on the whole stock of Bees and we have to care for her good condition. I.e. if the Queen Bee has not enough worker bees around to create a healthy stock we care for maturing more Bees that the stock comes back to its old strength.

In 1980 the FAO Organization imported Queen Bees from Italy to place them in Vietnamese Bee Stocks. The reason was that these Bees were bigger and more effective than the Vietnamese Stocks and since then we have a good and wealthy harvest every year.

What are the Bees doing exact to collect the Honey?

We put the Bees in Bee hives that can be transported (see picture above). And then we can carry the Bees wherever a good Flower Field is found that they can harvest the Flowers and bring in the Nectar for this is the first step of making Honey from the collected Nectar.

The Worker Bees are sent out to collect the Nectar and if some come back without enough load there are control bees at the entrance of the Bee hive to send  them out again to bring more – very restrictive work environment in such a Bee Hive. What drives them is the need to eat namely but also to feed their Queen. They also bring pollen and create the Bee Combs out of Wax. This is like a storage system. The Nectar is switches through and enzymatic system into Honey and sealed in this storage.

But to make Honey of it needs some more Bee effort. The Bees create a wind stream with their wings that brings the collected Nectar/Honey down to 19% moisture content. In Vietnam the natural Moisture Content is often very high so the Bees mange this  make the right content for good honey which needs 19% or under. It is a great system of Mother Nature.

The Honey Comb is built into a wooden frame that can be harvested if full. Each Comb contains some 500 Gram of Honey that can be gained as soon as all chambers of the comb are filled.

Trung Interview 1

“We use a good trick to make them harvest what we need.

We open the Bee Hive and they go out exactly to the Field we have chosen...”

Royal Viet Thanh offers pure Honey of one pure single source.

How can this be managed by the Bees?

We use a good trick to make them harvest what we need. The Bee Hives can be transported. So we cover them and bring the to a filed lets say with Café Flowers or with Rambutan or Lychee F lowers and also with Longan. So then we leave the hive there for a night and when the morning comes and the bees are used to the new Environment we open the Bee Hive and they go out exactly to the Field we have chosen. It helps that Bees hardly go further than a few kilometers away from their Hive to collect so we can manage in this natural way that we get what we are looking for.

How do you harvest and transport the Honey load to your factory?

Different sorts of Honey have different Harvesting times during the year and also different Harvesting areas as you can see on a map that we have in this magazine. We harvest nearly all over Vietnam. But it is always from our families we closely cooperate with. We need to control what is happening and what quality we can make sore of.

The Honey Combs are taken from the Bee Hives to some is always left to feed the Bees and the Queen. Sometimes if there is not enough we even have to give back Honey that our Bee communities can survive and have enough to eat. Every Comb contains about 500 Grams of Honey.

This Honey comb is the circulated in a simple machine that is rotated buy hand and the Honey ‘flies’ out of the comb and is been filtered  from the wax and collected the in hygienic Plastic containers. Each Container is sealed and labeled with all the information about the Bee Keeper, the Day and Area of Harvesting, the Kind of Honey, the amount and so on. Very strict that we can follow every batch. The Batches in the Containers are then trucked to the factory.

What is happening in the factory?

The Honey is brought into a pre-processing room and left for some time to settle. The same time we take samples to bring them to the Laboratories and check then on all kinds of parameters. Two important ones are the Glucose and Fructose content of the Honey that gives the load its characteristics. But also we avoid all kinds of contaminations.

Trung Interview 3

“We also look out for international Partners

To establish our Oriental Delight Honey Range”

Our Honey is collected from Fields that are left totally natural and are not infected by use of chemicals or fertilizers but we still control these contaminations by laboratory tests and give the results, expertise and guarantee of a first class pure contamination free honey to the customers.

I explained about the moisture content already. So Honey is stored at ad most 30 Degrees Celsius everything above changes the situation inside the honey and damages the goods. Also the Moisture must be kept best under 19%. We have a very sophisticated way to do so in our factory. There is a Tank where the honey is dripping down and cool wind evaporates the moisture unto the right amount is reached. It is a very natural way that we imitate the flapping wings of the Bees this technical way.

After checking and processing the Honey it is filled in Barrels for Export and transported to the different customers at their demand.

We also look for international Partners to establish our own branded ‘Oriental Delight’ Honey Range of Café, Longan Lychee and Rambutan Honey in the Retail Market – also welcome private brands. That will be another step on our way to introduce Honey from Vietnam to the World.

Let us talk some about Qualities in Honey.

What is i.e. a Leaf Honey compared to a flower honey?

How can you detect differences in the product?

As you know Honey is used in many different ways. Honey can be used in a cup of tea, on the Bread, in Muesli or in Cakes and also a lot in industrial value added products like Cookies and Ice-cream in example. So the Leaf Honey is taken from leaves as the name says i.e. from Acacias or Rubber Plants.

“The high end Honey has a high amount of Fructose.

The higher the amount of Fructose in a Honey the more the Vitamins

And all the valuable ingredients can be found…”

The Bees that the Honey in the Morning when the Acacia Needles set free a kind of  Nectar and their bottom and this is collected. Similar in the Rubber Plantations of Vietnam where from the Rubber leaves the Bees can collect some Nectar to bring home to the Hive.

The Leaf Honey is mostly used in industrial production as a value additive to the product. But the industry likes a honey with no smell and light taste which is the characteristic of most of the leaf honeys. They are just used as an ingredient but should not change the taste of the look of the products they are used in. These honeys have a higher amount of Glucose that of Fructose which is likes by the industry.

The high end pure honey has a high amount of Fructose. The higher the amount of Fructose in a Honey the more the Vitamins and all the valuable ingredients that make Honey such an first class Product are saved and can be found.

Definition:

Glucose is a simple sugar with the molecular formula C₆H₁₂O₆. Glucose is the most abundant monosaccharide, a subcategory of carbohydrates.

Fructose, or fruit sugar, is a ketonic simple sugar found in many plants, where it is often bonded to glucose to form the disaccharide sucrose. It is one of the three dietary monosaccharide, along with glucose and galactose that are absorbed directly into blood during digestion.

_____________________________________________________________________

So our four best Oriental Delight Honeys the Café, Rambutan, Lychee and Longan are full of Fructose and they are kept in the natural color which can different from Flower to Flower and from Fruit to Fruit.

The Color and the Taste and the Smell are the triangle of important criteria in a good Honey. I.e. our Café Honey is of a dark color and has a full aroma that has a wonderful aftertaste. It is round and sugary and is intensive. Once tasted will never forget this. It is matched by a wonderful addictive smell that you want to go with this great Honey.

The Longan is a light Honey and who ever tasted Longan as a fruit which is very common in Vietnam and is also loved all over the world will find that back in this Honey in this shiny light color and smell.

The same counts for the other two – they are unique in the appearance in the Taste and the Smell and one can have a whole collection on interesting Oriental Honeys that make one dream like a good Extra Olive Olio Vergine from Italy. The system is similar. All our Honey has never been changed and is exactly as pure as the nature it comes from.

But still the best Honey is the one that is left pure and like Mother Nature gave it to us with the help of the hard working Bees and the Community of Bee Keepers that we hold dear every day and every way we can.

For this reason our company developed a system of Herbal Components that are given to the Bee Keeping Community at low price totally coming from nature called ProBioHerband BioBooster

You developed this revolutionary biological way the keep the Bees Healthy and fit

Can you give some details about that?

Bees can be infected by so called ‘Nosema’ caused by the "parasites" nosema apis and ceranae. The main cause of dysentery in bees. Reduces bee life (drops young bees). Usually occurs in late spring, early summer; causes of weather changes. Or when the bees move to a new place where the environment changes living conditions. The Phenomenon, bees leave the hive to excrete and die, unable to fly back to the hive.

The well know treatment that we avoid is use of antibiotics, Fumagillin. However, it will contaminate the antibiotic with the honey into the beeswax. In addition, beneficial bacteria strains in the digestive system of bees are also affected.

ProbioHerbs  contains live strains of beneficial biological bacteria in the drug substance, helps bees balance the intestinal pH of bees, regenerate the intestinal microflora of the bee colony. Break down the excrement of bees. Medicinal herbs from herbs destroy harmful bacteria and viruses on bees, detoxify the liver for bees. Especially we pass out no Antibiotics anymore during the honey collecting season.

Pro Bio Herb Abstracts

Above some scientific abstract from the Internet of the problem and the solution

The BioBooster is a revolutinary method of giving the Bee a juvenating push to make them more effective and healthy. They are true athletes in their field and need the best biological support we can give them.

BioBooster-bees are healthy and strong, and are being tested on foreign bees during the division period in 2022.  I  will explain a few things in detail about biotech products based on knowledge of bee nutrition and biology:

An average worker bee weighs 120 mg, each worker needs 11 mg of dry sugar per day or about 22 ul of sugar syrup per worker per day.  Therefore, a colony of 50,000 bees needs 1.1 liters of 50% sugar syrup per day.  Bees have 2 enzymes (invertase, glucose oxidase)
Invertase converts sucrose into two sugars, glucose and fructose.

One larva needs 25-37.5 mg of protein, equivalent to 125-187.5 mg of pollen.  Bee larvae grow exponentially during the first 4.5 days of life, from 0.36 + 0.008 mg (12 h larvae) to 131.44 ± 18.7 mg (4.5 days), reaching  weight 159.66 ± 12.91 mg after screw cap.

Queen bees need vitamin B complex, Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C).., need high amounts of potassium, phosphate and magnesium, and essential ingredients.

BioBooster - healthy bees that breed healthy: is the result of bee nutrition and biological research.  Using bio-essential organic ingredients for bees.  Based on the nutritional needs of the queen bee when laying, it is necessary to add essential trace elements but extremely important for the queen to determine the quality and quantity of young bee eggs.

BioBooster helps the bee colony to be comprehensively healthy, the queen bee is strong, and the bee colony has a "breast" that feeds good bee larvae.
